Origins and Foundation

The Abuja gallery was established in 2002 by Chief Nike Monica Okundaye, popularly known as “Mama Nike.” As part of the larger foundation network that began in 1983 in Oshogbo, it complements sister galleries in Lagos, Oshogbo, and Ogidi-Ijumu. Each center follows Mama Nike’s mission of cultural preservation and empowerment, particularly for women artisans.

Collections and Exhibitions

Home to over 15,000 works by more than 5,000 artists, the gallery’s collection spans diverse media—paintings, sculptures, textiles, carvings, mosaics, and beadwork. Exhibits highlight both traditional craftsmanship and modern interpretations of African identity, making it one of West Africa’s largest and most diverse art spaces.

Workshops and Education

Beyond display, Nike Art Gallery, Abuja, functions as a creative learning hub. It conducts training in textile arts (such as adire and batik), wood carving, painting, beadwork, and other crafts. These workshops sustain ancestral skills while providing economic opportunities for local artists and youth.

Located at Piwoyi, off Abuja Airport Road, the gallery offers free entry, ample parking, and a serene environment suited to exploration and study.
